Sunspot 822




It cleared up again so I went back out with the eclipse shades and, sure enough, Sunspot 822 would appear to be visible with the naked eye. I then got the Solarscope out and did a quick sketch (as you can see above).

Thanks Stuart. It's crystal clear out there at the moment, with a nice near-full Moon and Mars hanging over the horizon to the east. I'm hoping that the clouds stay away until such a time as I can get my 'scope out (the forecast is suggest a cold, clear night for me tonight).

Very good (are you sending a copy to the Sky at Night?!). I showed the Sun to a few visiting students today through a borrowed solar telescope. It was a good view, that sunspot group is quite impressive, but I don't think they were that interested :-(

Heh, well, if I knew what the publishing policy for S@N and sketches was...

Shame the students weren't that interested.
